SUMMARY:AbEx Redux VI
LOCATION:Fine Arts Building, Pullman, WA 99164
DESCRIPTION:\n\nAbEx Redux VI\n\nFebruary 28 through March 6th\n\nopening reception Monday, March 4th 4:00-5:00\n\nLocker Gallery, Department of Art \n\nFA 321 Intermediate Painting students were asked to create a painting by borrowing the approach of a well-known innovative contemporary or modern abstract painter, or an artist working within the tradition of abstract painting but utilizing other materials. Through the creation of wholly or mostly nonrepresentational works students explored color, mark-making and the physical properties of painting at a relatively large scale. Students this semester were particularly interested in imbuing their abstract works with personal meanings and narratives. Lines and forms of the paintings were informed by song lyrics, ocean creatures and movements from dance. The resulting exhibition is a conversation around color, scale, pattern, form and authenticity in a mirthfully modernist mode.\n\nFeatured Image Information:\n\nMadeline Goolie, Losing Game (after Grace Hartigan & Cy Twombly), acrylic and screenprint on canvas, 48" x 36", 2024
