SUMMARY:Advances in Immunology and Microbiology Seminar Series: Kate Huyvaert
LOCATION:Bustad Hall
DESCRIPTION:Featuring research in the areas of:\n\nEpidemiology | Infectious Disease | Disease Ecology | Drug Discovery | Virology |\n\nGlobal Health | Vector-Borne Disease | Pathology\n\nThe Advances in Immunology & Microbiology seminar series is a weekly forum that brings together scientists from diverse fields and disciplines across the College of Veterinary Medicine to discuss research advances in the broad areas of immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and global health. Seminars feature student speakers from the Immunology & Infectious Disease (IID) doctoral program, IID-affiliated postdoctoral researchers and faculty, intramural speakers from across the university, and extramural speakers.\n\n\n\nPRESENTER: Dr. Kate Huyvaert, professor and Rocky Crate and Wild Sheep Foundation Endowed Chair\n\nTITLE: Not such a bird-brained idea: Using disease ecology to bridge the gap between medicine and management\n\nBrief ABSTRACT: Emergence of infectious diseases is linked to changes in the ecology of hosts, pathogens, and their shared environments, especially at the boundaries or interfaces between landscapes where pathogen spillover can occur. In this talk, I'll use recent and ongoing work on wildlife infectious diseases in my lab to explore how the field of disease ecology can help bridge disciplines from veterinary medicine to wildlife disease management.\n\n\n\nUpcoming Seminars\n\n\n\n October 2 - Dr. Thomas Burke, Assistant Professor, UC Davis\n\n October 9 - Cameron Coyle, PhD candidate\n\n October 16 - Dr. Phil Adams, Nat'l Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases\n\n October 30 - Dr. Paul Rowley, Associate Professor, University of Idaho\n\n November 6 - Sudiksha Pandit, PhD candidate\n\n November 13 - Charles Ugwu, PhD candidate\n\n November 20 - Dr. Steven Edmonds, PhD candidate & Pathology Resident, AND Dr. Colleen Lynch, PhD Candidate & Pathology Resident\n\n December 4 - Brittany Genera, PhD candidate AND Dr. Hayley Masterson, PhD candidate & Pathology Resident\n\n
