DESCRIPTION:Title: A Statistician’s Journey in High Tech World and Cracking the Big-tech Interview\n\nAbstract: In this talk, I'll share my personal journey as a statistician navigating\n\nthe dynamic landscape of different Amazon divisions for seven years,\n\nclimbing the ranks with four promotions, working as an individual\n\ncontributor and leading diverse tech teams. My experience spans\n\nmanaging software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, research\n\nscientists, and economists, not just collaborating with them but also\n\ninterviewing them. I'll offer practical insights and tips for preparing for\n\ntech job interviews, with a touch of humor: imagine trying to explain a pvalue\n\nat a party! Please note, this talk will focus on my experiences and\n\ninterview preparation, and will not cover specific research topics or Amazon\n\nprojects.\n\nSpeaker's Bio: Alice has been a Machine Learning Science Manager at\n\nAmazon for over seven years. She has led various applied science teams\n\nin developing neural network assembly architecture, overseen engineering\n\nteams building AI sandboxes for AWS, and guided data engineering teams to\n\nstreamline production processes. Alice also developed a recommendation\n\nsystem for Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA). Actively involved in the machine\n\nlearning community, she served as the Vice President of the American\n\nStatistical Association's Puget Sound chapter for four years and currently\n\nserves as an industry board member for the WSU Data Science program. She\n\nhas been a reviewer for AMLC in 2019 and 2020, and for IEEE in 2019. Alice\n\nholds a master's degree from Purdue University.
