SUMMARY:Bringing ideas to life: Concept mapping for engaged and effective teaching
LOCATION:Animal Disease Biotech Facility (ADBF), 1855 E GRIMES WAY, Pullman, WA 99164
DESCRIPTION:College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy\n\nSummer Tool Kit Series format\n\n\n\n Mini workshops are open to faculty, residents, and graduate students from the College of Veterinary Medicine and across the WSU.\n\n Our model: these workshops are intended to be active learning sessions. Each topic/idea will be introduced, and then the participants will engage, interact, and sometimes begin to create a product.\n\n Practically, we hope that participants will come away from each session with 1 or 2 take-home lessons they might apply to their own teaching.\n\n\n\nMay 7\n\nPRESENTERS: Thursday (Red Delicious) Learning Community Members, Claire Burbick, Iwona Driskell, Jillian Haines, Shana O'Marra, and Eric Winzenried\n\nDESCRIPTION: Concept mapping is a powerful visual tool that helps learners organize and connect ideas for deeper understanding. In this session, we’ll explore what concept mapping is, why it enhances teaching and learning across disciplines, and show you practical ways to create and use concept maps in your own educational settings.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy is an inclusive community of educators enhancing their teaching, career development and scholarship. The academy fosters innovative curriculum, teaching, and learning.\n\nOur weekly events are open to all college and WSU faculty, staff, graduate, and professional students.\n\nWe also offer educational training and academic career preparation opportunities to graduate students, veterinary residents, and new faculty members across the entire college through workshops, seminars, discussions, and summer programs.
