Bartley, Associate Professor, WSU Institute of Biological Chemistry\n\nHost: Kirk Peterson\n\n\n\nTitle: Altering Cell Wall Phenolic Acids to Improve Biomass for Biorefining\n\nAbstract: Biomass from terrestrial plants, largely lignocellulosic cell walls, can be converted into fuels and chemicals to reduce fossil fuel dependence. Grasses incorporate phenolic acids onto their lignin and polysaccharides which can modulate interactions among cell wall components and biorefining efficiency. Altering expression of members of a group of grass-diverged CoA-acyl acyltransferases alters esterification of either the polysaccharide arabinoxylan or the polyphenolic lignin.
