DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof. Pete Reilly, Department of Chemistry, Washington State University\n\nTitle: Developing Digital Waveform Mass Spectrometry\n\nAbstract: This seminar chronicles the development of digital waveform mass spectrometry by our group at WSU in terms of the theory, hardware, and methods. It provides a timeline and reasoned path for the development of digital waveform technology (DWT) in pursuit of extending the working range of mass spectrometers to cover the complete range of intact proteins and biological complexes. DWT expansion of the working range involves more than just increasing the range for making resolved mass measurements, it also provides new and improved methods of ion manipulation over the same increased range within the mass spectrometer. Manipulations that were only applicable in the low mass range, such as high-resolution ion isolation, preconcentration, and controlled activation are now feasible at essentially any value of m/z or mass. DWT also enables access to higher stability regions for improved resolution and sensitivity. This seminar will compare and contrast the DWT with the old sine wave-based technology.\n\n
