DESCRIPTION:The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites all to a colloquium featuring Dr. Alex Mellnik, Rigetti Computing. Dr. Mellnik will present their talk, “Today's Quantum Computers.”\n\nMeet for refreshments before the lecture at 3:45 – 4:10 p.m. in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall.\n\nAbstract:\n\nQuantum Computing is attracting increased interest outside of academia, and a range of companies big and small are now working to develop commercially useful quantum computers.  In this talk, I'll talk about the state of the industry, and where we think Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum Computers may first have a significant impact.  I'll also talk about opportunities for scientists and engineers in the field and how I ended up in it, as well as current technical challenges for superconducting qubit-based quantum computing.  At the end of the talk I'll give a live demo of Rigetti's Quantum Cloud Services platform by walking through a version of the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger experiment.\n\nPaste abstract at the end of the announcement\n\nphysics.wsu.edu/events/colloquium
