SUMMARY:Colloquium: Physics & Astronomy – Dr. Fred Gittes
LOCATION:Webster Physical Science Building, Pullman, WA 99163
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to a colloquium featuring Dr. Fred Gittes, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Washington State University. Please join us as Dr. Gittes present his talk, “How Berry’s phase comes out of geometry.”\n\nMeet for refreshments before the lecture from 3:45 – 4:10 p.m. in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall.\n\nAbstract:\n\nIn this pedagogical talk, I will introduce the geometric concepts of connection and parallel transport. I'll then show how these concepts provide a natural framework and motivation for Berry’s phase, a central and often puzzling feature in quantum mechanics. This discussion will complement textbook developments of Berry’s phase.\n\nphysics.wsu.edu/events/colloquium
