DESCRIPTION:The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites all to a colloquium featuring Dr. Sergej Filippov, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University. Dr. Filippov will present their talk, “Study of protein corona for polymeric drug delivery systems.”\n\nMeet for refreshments before the lecture at 3:45–4:10 p.m. in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall.\n\nAbstract: Polymer drug carriers based on N‐(2‐Hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) copolymers bearing cholesterol moieties have been studied extensively over the past few years, to understand the aggregation behavior and shape of the copolymers in dilute aqueous solutions [1,2]. Above certain concentration, micelle‐like nanoparticles (NPs) having ellipsoidal shape are observed. However, there is a lack of knowledge on the behavior of these drug carriers in human blood environment. Human serum albumin (HSA), fibrinogen, Imunoglobulin G, and apolipoproteins A‐E were chosen for this study as basic proteins, which are the main component of human blood plasma. We use fluorescence life‐time correlation spectroscopy (FLCS), Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) to investigate HPMA copolymers that are dissolved in an aqueous solution of proteins to reveal the interaction between the NPs and proteins [3,4].\n\n[1] S.
