DESCRIPTION:Co-presented by:\n\nMary Peace McRae, PharmD, PhD, Associate Professor, University of Virginia; and\n\nKristin Zimmerman, BS Pharm, PharmD BCACP, BCGP, Associate Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy\n\nMary Peace McRae is the Assistant Dean of Research and an Associate Professor Neuroscience at University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine. Prior to her current role at UVA, she was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Outcomes Science at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy. As a researcher, educator, and administrator, Dr. McRae has held several leadership positions which have strengthened her abilities to lead and inspire across scientific disciplines and departmental lines. She has served as vice chair of graduate studies and graduate program director for VCU’s Department of Pharmacotherapy and Outcomes Science where she oversaw the entire life cycle of the graduate student. With respect to research, she is an NIH-funded principal investigator studying the interplay of HIV and opioids on factors that impact antiretroviral efficacy within the brain. She has served the NIH as a study section member for numerous special emphasis panels.\n\nKristin Zimmerman is an Associate Professor within the VCU School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacotherapy and Outcomes Science. Dr. Zimmerman received her Bachelor of Science (2006) and Doctor of Pharmacy (2008) degrees from the University of Connecticut and completed two years of postgraduate residency training to specialize in Geriatrics (2008-2010). Dr. Zimmerman currently practices within the VCU Center for Advanced Health Management serving the primary care needs of older adults. She is a member of the Virginia Geriatric Education Center and its HRSA-funded Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, as well as the VCU School of Pharmacy's Center for Pharmacy Practice Transformation and the Geriatric Pharmacotherapy Program. Her scholarship and clinical activities focus on workforce development, medication appropriateness, and the de-prescribing of unnecessary medications.\n\nCo-sponsored by the Alliance for Health Science Professional Educator Networking (ASPEN) Mentoring Initiative and Collaboration for InterProfessional Health Education Research & Scholarship (CIPHERS)\n\n
