SUMMARY:Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Summit: Health Justice
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Racism is a severe threat to the public’s health. A growing body of research shows disproportionately adverse health outcomes for people of color, including higher rates of illness and death across various health conditions and, for some, a lower life expectancy overall. Inequitable systems further impact those who hold multiple marginalized identities.\n\nCombating systemic racism in healthcare starts with understanding the many forms of embedded discrimination and prejudice. We must first identify and understand how multiple forms of racial injustice affect patients, healthcare professionals, and healthcare providers. Only then can we change healthcare and long-term health outcomes.\n\nSpeakers and Panelists\n\n\n\n Agenda | Dr. Matthew Jeffries, Director of Campus Climate and Community Building\n\n Welcome | Dr. Elizabeth Chilton, Provost and Pullman Chancellor\n\n Overview of Systems that Impact Healthcare and Systemic Racism | Dr. Lisa Guerrero, Vice Chancellor of Equity and Inclusive Excellence\n\n Panel on Black Women’s Health\n\n\n\n Moderator: Lynne Varner, Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff to EverettChancellor Pitre\n\n Charice DeGuzman, Counseling and Psychological Services Multicultural Specialist and Outreach\n\n Le’Dashia Orndorff, Coalition of Women Students\n\n Dr. Betty Wilson, Human Development Assistant Professor\n\n\n\n\n\n Break\n\n Panel Question & Answer \n\n Closing Comments | Joel Schwartzkopf (Pullman Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Health and Wellbeing)\n\n\n\nAll faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.
