SUMMARY:EECS Lunch and Learn with Industry: Landing Your First Engineering Job by Kristina Newhouse, Avista Corporation
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:Presentation:\n\nAs you work on your final year of engineering courses, chances are you’re probably also trying to figure out how to get your engineering career started after graduation. In my talk I’ll share some things I learned as an engineer and a hiring engineering manager from applications and resumes to preparing for your interview.\n\nBio:\n\nKristina Newhouse works at Avista Utilities as the Generation Controls/Electrical Engineering Manager. Kristina also manages Avista’s Engineering Development Program. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University and is registered as a professional engineer. She lives in Spokane and has two young sons with her husband, Adam, who is also a WSU engineer alum. When she’s not working she’s spending time with her family doing various activities such as gardening, cooking, baking, reading, camping, hiking, biking, or playing family games.\n\nSeries Purpose:\n\nIt has been said one should never let a crisis go to waste, because it can be an opportunity to try new things that may not have been possible before. And, with the temporary transition to online learning, we have a new means for industry to connect with students at WSU.\n\nThe purpose of this speaking series is for high-tech companies to share insight with EECS students and give time for Q&A.\n\nExample topics will include career experiences, how to succeed in industry, what to expect with your first job, interviewing advice, along with technology discussions and trends.\n\nThe series is brought to you by the WSU EECS Executive Council. We are engineers, managers, and executives that help advise the WSU EECS program so what you learn at school matches the skills and values needed for a successful career.
