SUMMARY:Faculty Artist Series: Celebrating Dick Kattenburg’s 100th Birthday + LIVESTREAM
LOCATION:Bryan Hall
DESCRIPTION:CONCERT PROGRAM\n\nAs part of the WSU School of Music's Faculty Artist Series, we will honor Holocaust-victim Dick Kattenburg's 100th birthday with a recital featuring his music along with other from or inspired by World War II. Dick Kattenburg, born in 1919, was a promising Dutch composer but was arrested in Amsterdam and died as a prisoner in Auschwitz in 1944. This concert features two of his piano works and three chamber pieces including the recently-published version of his unfinished wind quintet. Accompanying these works by Kattenburg will be two works by Olivier Messiaen, a French WWII prisoner of war in Germany, and a 1936 response by Benjamin Britten to the world's seemingly inevitable march into war by the world's powers. This concert features the WSU woodwind and piano faculty.\n\nProceeds from ticket sales in the series benefit the School of Music Scholarship Fund. Tickets, on sale one hour before performances in the lobby, cost $10 general admission, $5 senior citizens (55+) and non-WSU students and free for WSU students with ID.
