SUMMARY:Faculty Artist Series: Wailing Fantasies
LOCATION:Bryan Hall
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n[caption id="attachment_15820" align="alignleft" width="198"] Sarah Miller[/caption]\n\nAlthough the flute and trombone are rarely paired together, this recital is designed to show how they compliment each other. Written for flute and trombone, Wail by Nicole Chamberlain won its division in the 2017 National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition. A thrilling piece that draws from film noir, funk, and the distinct timbres of the instruments, Wail is the perfect way to unite two instruments from the opposite ends of the musical spectrum.\n\nIn addition to Wail, the program will include well-loved solo sonatas and fantasies. Miller will perform Fantasy by living Canadian composer Elizabeth Raum and Sonata for trombone and piano by American composer George McKay. Tegart will perform Deuxieme Sonate for flute and piano by French composer and member of "Les Six" Germaine Tailleferre, and Grande Fantaisie (On Themes From "Mignon" By Thomas Ambroise) by the famous former flute professor of the Paris Conservatory, Paul Taffanel .\n\n[caption id="attachment_15819" align="alignright" width="198"] Sophia Tegart,[/caption]\n\nPerforming this recital are Dr. Sarah Miller, Clinical Assistant Professor of Trombone, Dr. Sophia Tegart, Clinical Assistant Professor of Flute, and Dr. Mark Stevens, Associate Professor of Piano in the School of Music at Washington State University.\n\nProceeds from ticket sales in the series benefit the School of Music Scholarship Fund. Tickets, on sale one hour before performances in the lobby, cost $10 general admission, $5 senior citizens (55+) and non-WSU students and free for WSU students with ID\n\nFor more information visit School of Music
