DESCRIPTION:The Solstice Wind Quintet will perform a wide array of wind duos along with woodwind quintets. Works by Marion Bauer, Jan Bach, Jean-Michel Damase, Jorgen Jersild, and Heitor Villa-Lobos will be performed by faculty members Sophia Tegart, flute; Keri McCarthy, oboe; Shannon Scott, clarinet; Martin King, horn; and Ryan Hare, bassoon. The program combines well-known repertoire such as Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6 with rarely performed works like Jorgen Jersild’s At spille i skoven “Music-making in the forest”: Serenade for quintet. Music from America, Brazil, Denmark, and France will be presented on this exciting program.\n\nSolstice Wind Quintet: Sophia Tegart, flute; Ryan Hare, bassoon;Keri McCarthy, oboe; Martin King, horn; Shannon Scott, clarinet\n\n&nbsp;\n\nThe Solstice Wind Quintet is a resident ensemble comprised of WSU School of Music faculty. Every year, Solstice tours throughout the Northwest receiving enthusiastic acclaim for vibrant performances of standard repertoire and exciting new works composed especially for the ensemble. Founded in 1978 the group regularly performs on prestigious chamber music series, at universities, art museums and public schools. Additionally, Solstice has performed live concerts for National Public Radio’s “St. Paul Sunday,” and the quintet’s CD titled “Solstice Live” has been featured on NPR. Individual members of the quintet have extensive professional experience in symphony, opera and ballet orchestras including the Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Tulsa, and Kansas City, to name just a few. Solstice is dedicated to promoting the music of WSU composers Greg Yasinitsky, Dave Jarvis, Ryan Hare, and Scott Blasco.\n\nGeneral admission is $10.00, seniors and non-WSU students are $5.00 and WSU students are free. All proceeds go to support music scholarships in the WSU School of Music.
