SUMMARY:FAS: Julie Wieck, soprano
LOCATION:Bryan Hall
DESCRIPTION:Program: Link will open in this tab.\n\nIn honor of the WSU School of Music’s 125th Anniversary, Dr. Julie Anne Wieck, soprano and Elena Panchenko, piano will be presenting a recital entitled Songs of the Early 20th Century. At that time American composers were just starting to develop their own unique styles of art song, previously relying heavily on European music. The program will begin with several popular Italian art songs, made famous by Enrico Caruso when he emigrated to the United States in 1901. Other selections composed in 1901, including Arnold Schoenberg’s Cabaret Songs and Roger Quilter’s Three Songs, will be performed, along with some of Reynaldo Hahn’s song cycle, Chanson grises. Come and hear some of the lovely art song that would later influence the development of the genre in the United States.
