The program will include Jazz Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Regents Professor and Director of the School of Music, Gregory Yasinitsky. The soloist will be Willis Delony, a distinguished professor at Louisiana State University, performing with the WSU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Danh Pham. This new concerto blends jazz and classical music and was premiered in January by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra with Delony as soloist. The work received an enthusiastic, spontaneous standing ovation. Maestro Timothy Muffitt who conducted the premiere describes the piece as "a unique work in the American orchestral canon, and most deserving of recognition.” Delony and Muffitt plan to nominate the Concerto for the Pulitzer Prize in Music.\n\nThe program will also include Wynwood Project by WSU Professor David Jarvis which was written especially for the Solstice Quintet, a faculty ensemble in residence at WSU featuring flutist Sophia Tegart, oboist Keri McCarthy, clarinetist Shannon Scott, hornist Martin King, and bassoonist Ryan M. Hare. Hare is also the composer of Stanzas which will be performed by the WSU Symphony Orchestra.\n\nThe concert is free of charge.
