DESCRIPTION:Canadian pianist Miranda Wong will perform a free, public guest-artist recital as part of Washington State University’s Summer Keyboard Explorations for teens at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, in Bryan Hall.Frequently heard on CBC Radio and international tours with the contemporary ensemble Aventa, she will perform Rachmaninoff’s “Corelli Variations,” Bach’s “Italian Concerto,” Berio’s “Luftklavier,” selections from Granados’ “Goyescas” and Menotti’s “Ricercare” and “Toccata on a Theme from the Old Maid and the Thief.”\n\nWong is on the piano faculty of the University of British Columbia School of Music and the Douglas College Department of Music in Vancouver, B.C.\n\nShe was featured recently at the Montreal New Music Festival and Copenhagen’s Athelas Festival and performed several world premieres, including the “Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano” by British composer Peter Maxwell Davies.\n\nA recipient of a Canada Council grant, Wong holds degrees from the University of Victoria (where she was head of her graduating class), Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. Her major teachers include Leon Fleisher, Leonard Shure, Robin Wood, Ellen Mack and Berl Senofsky.
