DESCRIPTION:\n\nPRESENTER: Dr. Jon Skare, Regents Professor and Associate Head, Dept. of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology, Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine, Texas A&amp;M University\n\nResistance to classical complement clearance by Lyme disease and relapsing fever Borrelia\n\nJon Skare, Ph.D. is a Professor and Associate Head in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology. He is an internationally recognized expert in Lyme disease and relapsing fever Borrelia pathogenesis and has been funded continuously from NIH since 1999. His research has resulted in over 60 publications, as well as several book chapters and reviews. In 2023 he was recognized by the Texas A&amp;M System as a Regents Professor and was elected to the American Academy of Microbiology in 2024. In 2025, he was honored as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Medical Sciences. More importantly, Dr. Skare has mentored 28 graduate and postdoctoral fellows who have gone on to successful careers in academia and medicine. Dr. Skare has provided important leadership at the Department, College, and University level, most recently as Director of the Medical Sciences Graduate Program within the Vashisht College of Medicine (VCOM). The success of his trainees, and the students within the VCOM graduate program, represents Dr. Skare’s most meaningful and significant contribution in his academic career at Texas A&amp;M University.\n\n\n\nPaul G. Allen School for Global Health.
