Yasinitsky[/caption]\n\nWSU celebrates its 25th annual jazz festival with festival founder and special guest saxophonist Greg Yasinitsky. Dr. Yasinitsky will perform with the WSU Jazz Big Band during a free, public concert at noon Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Bryan Hall at Washington State University. In addition, members of WSU’s faculty ensemble, Jazz Northwest will perform at 4:20pm in Kimbrough Concert Hall. Both concerts are part of the daylong WSU Jazz Festival for area high school and middle school groups.\n\nGregory W. Yasinitsky is a Regents professor and the director of the School of Music at Washington State University where he teaches composition and saxophone. Yasinitsky earned degrees in composition at the Eastman School of Music (DMA) and San Francisco State University (MA, BM). Yasinitsky is active as a jazz composer and arranger, with many works for big band, combos, and jazz choir including music written especially for Clark Terry, Louis Bellson, David Liebman, and the USAF “Airmen of Note” big band. Yasinitsky’s music has been performed and broadcast worldwide.\n\n \n\n[caption id="attachment_10199" align="alignleft" width="396"] WSU Jazz Big Band[/caption]\n\nThe performance by the WSU Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Brian Ward, will feature compositions by Yasinitsky performed by alumni, faculty members, and students.\n\nThe festival will include adjudicated performances throughout the day by visiting school groups; clinics by Yasinitsky and WSU jazz studies faculty members; and an afternoon concert by Jazz Northwest, the WSU faculty jazz ensemble.\n\nThe festival is presented by the WSU School of Music and the Jazz Society at WSU.
