SUMMARY:One Billion Rising
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Join the global movement to stop violence against women. Make your voices heard by dancing for a cause. Let's show the world what one billion looks like in one of our largest Zumba classes of the year! One Billion Rising is a movement celebrated around the world which raises awareness to end violence toward women and girls. Join UREC as we rise, release, and dance, in a one-hour long FREE Zumba class.\n\nOne Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Now, every February, women rise in hundreds of countries across the world to show local communities and the world what one billion looks like and to shine a light on the rampant injustice that survivors most often face. Women rise through dance to express joy in the community and to celebrate the fact that they have not been defeated by the violence.\n\nThis year, One Billion Rising has chosen the theme of "Solidarity." One Billion Rising's campaign will focus on rising in solidarity against the exploitation of women.
