DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM\n\nThe WSU Opera Workshop’s production, Obstacles to Love, brings to life a wide variety of characters, starting with scenes from Purcell’s Baroque opera, Dido and Aeneas. Taken from Virgil’s Aeneid, the opera tells the story of Dido, Queen of Carthage and Aeneas of Troy. Their love is thwarted by the Sorceress and witches, sung by Anya Guadamuz, Emily Warnecke and Rowan Dunn, determined to destroy Dido and Carthage. They will be joined by the WSU Concert Choir.\n\nThe one-act opera, The Telephone, was written by Menotti in 1946 but the story is even more relevant today. Ben, portrayed by Bryce Weber, discovers the obstacle that technology can present when communicating with his girlfriend, Lucy, sung by Kayla Ray.\n\nTo complete the program, Anya Guadamuz will return in the role of Baba the Turk from Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. The production is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck with the assistance of collaborative pianist, Elena Panchenko.\n\nThe production is free and open to the public; audience members must be masked.
