SUMMARY:Opera Workshop
LOCATION:Bryan Hall
DESCRIPTION:Three American operas will be featured in this scenes production by WSU Opera Workshop, under the direction of Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and accompanied by Elena Panchenko. The stories all involve the idea of hope for a better life or in one case, life…after death. The opera Street Scene by Kurt Weill takes place in the melting pot of the Lower East Side of New York City in 1946 while The Tender Land by Copland tells the story of a Midwestern farm family during the Great Depression. Life was hard for people living through those times, especially for the young with dreams of getting out. The third scene from Edwin Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos takes place in heaven at the pearly gates. St. Peter and the angel Gabriel, director of the heavenly chorus, must decide on the next addition to the heavenly chorus.\n\nThis concert is open to the public and without charge.
