DESCRIPTION:Jessica Carder (Brozik Group)\n\nZOOM ONLY\n\nTitle: Stochastic Biophysics of More Natively Folded Recombinant Human Aquaporin-4 Orthogonal Array of Particles: A Protein Tracking Study\n\nAbstract: Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is the central nervous system (CNS) water channel protein in charge of controlling water homeostasis and neuronal activity. AQP4 exists in two main isoforms in the CNS, M1 and M23, with M23 being the isoform that favors stabilization by aggregation into orthogonal arrays of particles (OAPs). What role these OAPs play in the membrane of cells is still largely unknown and the dynamics of OAP assembly in the plasma membrane remain elusive. Through a collaboration with the Nicchia group from the University of Bari, techniques have been developed using insect cell lines to isolate and express the M23-AQP4 isoform in its authentically folded state in an in vitro environment.
