SUMMARY:Physics and Astronomy Colloquium – Dr. Kai Bongs
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to a colloquium featuring Dr. Kai Bongs, UK National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Timing, University of Birmingham. Dr. Bongs will present his talk, “Quantum Sensors and their Applications”, via Zoom.\n\nMeet the speaker at 3:30 pm - join us in welcoming the speaker and for an informal chat!\n\nhttps://wsu.zoom.us/j/95710823436?pwd=QlJTZzN6a25DTnJsUG44aW0vNWtzZz09\n\nMeeting ID: 957 1082 3436\n\nPasscode: PhysAstro\n\nAbstract: In 2020, Quantum Sensors have been named one of the top 10 emerging technologies by the World Economic Forum. This is just one recent step in the rapid emergence of Quantum Technologies and the international race to harness their potential. The UK National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Timing is looking into the ground-breaking possibilities quantum sensors promise in looking into the ground, seeing the activity of the human brain, detecting small objects in the air and finding your position wherever you are. This talk will provide an introduction to atom-based quantum sensors and clocks and discuss some of the emerging applications.\n\n
