SUMMARY:Public Square Discussion: Banned Books
LOCATION:Compton Union Building
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the CCE Public Square as a distinguished panel will discuss the phenomenon of banning books.\n\nBook bans are happening at the highest rate in the past 20 years, according to the American Library Association (ALA). The ALA documented 681 attempts to ban or restrict library resources, and 1,651 unique titles were targeted in the first six months of 2022. The year before, the ALA reported 729 attempts to censor library resources, targeting 1,597 books.\n\nThis discussion examines what these book bans mean for students, their families, educational and other public institutions like libraries. As with all Public Square discussions, we want to hear from you--there will be a live Q&A session in which panelists will take your questions about issues that matter most to you.\n\nThe Public Square discussion will take place Thursday, Nov 3 at 3 p.m. in Butch’s Den in the lower level of the Compton Union Building on the Pullman Campus.\n\nAll Public Square discussions are free and open to WSU students and personnel.\n\nContact: Dave Jones at dave.jones@wsu.edu\n\n\n\nRegister and learn more about the Public Square on GivePulse.\n\n\n\n
