DESCRIPTION:The WSU School of Music and the Center for Arts and Humanities welcomes Dr. Jace Saplan to present his lecture "The Land We Stand On: Decolonizing Our Relationship to Musicking." This talk is part of the School of Music lecture series "Music: A Mosaic of Experiences." In music, there are stories. In music, there are sonic lineages. In performing/composing/studying/teaching/ these soundworlds, we communicate their ancestral joy, trials, tribulations, and trauma. What, then, is our reverent responsibility in our study and teaching of music? Join Dr. Saplan as we consider how our ways of knowing can leave room for music(s) outside of our identities, how our musical relationships can affirm BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ experiences, and how our musical lives can root within spaces of radical community.\n\nThis online lecture will be presented at 11 am on Thursday February 18 on the WSU Pullman Music YouTube channel.
