SUMMARY:SDC Distinguished Guest Lecture: Buddy Huffaker
LOCATION:Goertzen Hall
DESCRIPTION:For over 20 years Buddy has been instrumental in advancing the Leopold Foundation's efforts to ecologically manage the Leopold Shack and Farm National Historic Landmark, and advocating for an ethic of care for people, land and all that connects them. Balancing the ecological, economic and cultural values of the Aldo Leopold Foundation's own property and working with neighboring landowners on the 10,000 acre Leopold/Pine Island Important Bird Area has revealed the challenges faced by non-industrial private forest landowners. Additionally, Buddy has participated in three White House Conferences on conservation and environmental education and is recognized as a leading voice on the important role for ethics to humanity's relationship with nature. Buddy will discuss these experiences and offer insight into contemporary land ethic practices during this engaging presentation.
