SUMMARY:Seminar: Lung Mechanical determinants of airway function during and after exercise in asthma
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Hans Haverkamp, PhD. Associate Professor of Health Sciences, Johnson State College.\n\nJoin via Zoom: https://wsu-medicine.zoom.us/j/915781342\n\nIn the asthmatic, a variety of inflammatory, neural, and lung mechanical factors determine airway function both during and after whole-body exercise. Our recent studies demonstrate a crucial bronchodilation during exercise in the asthmatic presenting with narrowed airways at rest. However, bronchoconstriction often occurs during the post-exercise period (i.e., exercise-induced asthma). Our recent experimental data related to the influence of lung stretch on the exercise and post-exercise responses will be presented. Future studies will integrate several determinants of airway behavior with exercise in asthma. Ultimately, these investigations seek to not only improve our understanding of the complex determinants of exercise airway function in asthma, but also to identify novel approaches for managing the condition.
