DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_11023" align="alignleft" width="301"] Danh Pham, Willis Delony, Greg Yasinitsky[/caption]\n\nThe WSU School of Music presents in concert the WSU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Danh Pham on Wednesday evening, February 7, at 8:00 pm in Bryan Hall Theatre. This is the first time these two groups have shared the stage for a single concert.\n\nThe program will include Gregory Yasinitsky’s Jazz Concerto in a new orchestration commissioned especially for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Yasinitsky is Director of the School of Music and a Regents Professor.\n\nWillis Delony, a distinguished professor at Louisiana State University, will be heard as the piano soloist. Delony is familiar to WSU audiences for his numerous, acclaimed guest performances on campus. Yasinitsky’s Concerto, which blends jazz and classical music and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Music, was described by Timothy Muffitt, conductor of the premiere of the Concerto with the Baton Rouge Symphony, “as a unique work in the American orchestral canon, and most deserving of recognition.”\n\nThe program will also include the world premieres of works by Raul Blanco, a graduate student and teaching assistant, and Jackson Bores, an undergraduate music education major.\n\n\n\nThe concert is made possible in part by a generous grant from Allegro, the Student Association for Music Advocacy, and is free and open to the public.\n\n \n\n
