DESCRIPTION:The WSU Department of Fine Arts will present Torrey Pines, a stop-motion animated feature film by director Clyde Petersen. The film will be accompanied by a live score provided by the band Your Heart Breaks.\n\nBased on a true story, the film is a queer punk coming-of-age tale, taking place in Southern California in the early 1990’s. Raised by a schizophrenic single mother, Petersen's life story unfolds in a series of baffling and hallucinated events. With a mother fueled by hallucinations of political conspiracy and family dysfunction, Petersen is kidnapped at the age of 12 and taken on a cross-country adventure that will forever alter the family as they know it.\n\nTorrey Pines is both a complete feature film, and a touring theatrical show. The film has a\n\nsoundtrack produced by Chris Walla, while the live theatrical version has a score performed by\n\nthe band Your Heart Breaks.\n\nClyde Peterson\n\nClyde Petersen is a Seattle based artist, working in film, animation, music, installation and\n\nfabulous spectacle. He is a member of the transgender and queer communities in Seattle. He\n\ntravels the world with his punk band Your Heart Breaks and hosts a TV show in a small\n\nhandmade boat in the Washington Park Arboretum. Boating with Clyde features artists from\n\naround the world, performing on the waterways of Seattle and can be seen online. Past projects\n\nalso include the 90-minute multimedia show Gender Failure with Rae Spoon and Ivan Coyote.\n\nHis work has been featured around the world at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival,\n\nSXSW, the Henry Art Gallery, the Walker Art Gallery, Portland State University, Western\n\nWashington University, Bumbershoot Arts Festival, Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and\n\nmany more. His clients include The Thermals, Kimya Dawson, Laura Veirs, Earth, Minor Alps,\n\nQuasi, Deerhoof, Sean Nelson, The Portland Cello Project and Thao with the Get Down Stay\n\nDown to name a few.
