SUMMARY:VCEA Safety Training
LOCATION:Engineering Teaching Research Laboratory (ETRL), Pullman, WA
DESCRIPTION:The Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA), in partnership with WSU Environmental Health & Safety, created a specifically designed safety course to address the most common safety practices and areas of risk lab users may experience at WSU.\n\nThe course has been taken by numerous seasoned scientists, as well as those with no lab experience. Both groups have noted they come away from the course pleasantly surprised at what they learned, and most make changes in their lab practices as a result: it is quite informative.\n\nVCEA strongly encourages all Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture personnel working or supporting a lab environment take this training, indifferent of their experience.\n\nUndergraduates that are working/researching for a PI and who may be exposed to a lab are also encouraged to attend.\n\nThe training, already a requirement for any PACCAR lab user, provides an updated look at current lab practices in addition to three primary areas that influence risk within a lab.\n\nFive Focus Areas and Chemical Compatibility \n\nGeneral Laboratory Safety and Hazard Communication\n\nDangerous Waste Generator, Chemical Storage, Emergency Response and Planning\n\nThe safety course is free of charge.\n\nThere is one more session currently scheduled for the Fall 2018 semester on Wednesday, October 3, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., in ETRL 101 Seminar Room. If a location other than Pullman would like to attend please advise and a video conference can be setup. Additional sessions can be scheduled upon request.\n\nHave a safe semester!
