DESCRIPTION:WSU, the Common Reading Program, and the Visiting Writers Series welcome Pulitzer Prize- winning poet Natalie Diaz for a reading. Diaz&#039;s poem, &quot;American Arithmetic,&quot; appears as a selection in this year&#039;s common reading book, Tales of Two Americas: Stories of Inequality in a Divided Nation, that is being used in first-year and other courses this year. She was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 2021.\n\nAbout the poet\n\nDiaz identifies as Mohave American and is a poet, author, language activist, former professional basketball player, and educator. She is enrolled in the Gila River Indian Community and identifies as Akimel O&#039;odham.
