International Film Series: Soul Kitchen (Germany, 2009)
About the event
The School of Languages, Cultures and Race presents this year’s International Film Series “Would you give me the recipe?”: Cinematic Representations of Food, Cooking, Kitchens, and Restaurants. Today, Dr Lisa Höller will present Soul Kitchen (Germany, 2009), directed by Fatih Akin. In Hamburg, German-Greek chef Zinos unknowingly disturbs the peace in his locals-only restaurant by hiring a more talented chef.
Food, the most mundane and necessary to sustain us daily, can turn into a magical experience. This film series invites you to experience this magic through these eight acclaimed films from diverse countries that capture precisely this universal human experience occasioned by food, transporting us from the real to a suspended présent of enchantment.
All films have English subtitles.
This series is open to the public for free.
The series will take place every Tuesday until March 4th. Find the full program here.
