About the event

Princess Ida or Castle Adamant is a comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan, satirizing women’s education and Darwinism, popular topics at the time in Victorian England, resulting in a battle of the sexes.  The princess, engaged at a very early age, decides to reject the patriarchal world and create her own women’s university.  Her betrothed and his two friends infiltrate the university to change her mind.  Updated from the original medieval setting, the WSU production occurs in the 1950’s as both sides look for cooperation and a relationship based on equality rather than dominance.  The WSU Opera/Musical Theatre program is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck with assistance from Elena Panchenko, collaborative pianist.  The WSU Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Danh Pham.  The productions will be in Bryan Hall Theatre on Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 Students/Senior Citizens and $15 General Admission.
