Advances in Immunology and Microbiology Seminar Series
About the event
Featuring research in the areas of:
Epidemiology | Infectious Disease | Disease Ecology | Drug Discovery | Virology |
Global Health | Vector-Borne Disease | Pathology
The Advances in Immunology & Microbiology seminar series is a weekly forum that brings together scientists from diverse fields and disciplines across the College of Veterinary Medicine to discuss research advances in the broad areas of immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and global health. Seminars feature student speakers from the Immunology & Infectious Disease (IID) doctoral program, IID-affiliated postdoctoral researchers and faculty, intramural speakers from across the university, and extramural speakers.

PRESENTER: Dr. Zeyang Shen, Assistant Professor, School of Molecular Biosciences
TITLE: Microbiome composition and function in human health and disease
ABSTRACT: Dr. Zeyang Shen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Molecular Biosciences. His lab develops and applies computational methods to analyze next-generation sequencing data, with a focus on the human microbiome. He earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at UC San Diego and completed postdoctoral training at the NIH, where he led studies of the infant skin microbiome in atopic diseases, including atopic dermatitis and food allergy. In this talk, Dr. Shen will highlight recent work on profiling microbiomes from large-scale sequencing datasets, identifying microbiome-phenotype associations, and linking strain-level genetic variation to microbial functional potential. Dr. Shen is currently recruiting trainees interested in computational biology/bioinformatics and microbiome science, and welcomes inquiries about rotations and research opportunities.
