About the event

Join us for the WSU Student American Veterinary Medical Association’s (SAVMA) Annual 5K Rabies Run, a fundraiser and “zombie run.”

Support the Rabies Free Africa campaign.

The spooky season is almost upon us. You know what that means? Time to RUN!!!

The 5k Rabies Run includes a one-mile section called the “zombie loop” where zombies (your friendly, neighborhood vet students) will be eagerly waiting to stop you on your mission to run against Rabies! Each participant who chooses to run the zombie loop will receive a capture-the-flag belt and attempt to make it through the loop with as many of their “lives” (flags) intact as possible! Can you make it out alive?? For each flag/life you are able to return to the registration desk with, you will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift basket! In addition to the zombie loop, since the event is so close to Halloween, we encourage participants to dress up. We award extra raffle tickets for costumes. This makes for a spooky, fun event for the WSU and Pullman community!

This event promotes public awareness about how rabies and other dangerous diseases can be prevented by having pets regularly vaccinated. There will be handouts and signage at the event about rabies prevention in the United States, as well as around the world. All proceeds from the event will be directly donated to the Washington State University Rabies Free Africa campaign which provides vaccinations to dogs in east Africa with the hope of eradicating rabies entirely.

The race starts outside Bustad Hall at 10 AM (check-in starts at 9:30 AM).

Want to run the Rabies Run but you haven’t registered yet?
Are you not a runner?
  • Grab some friends and walk the route just for fun!
Don’t want to participate on your own?
  • Bring your friends, family, anyone from the community! Unfortunately, NO pets. The arboretum is closed to pets, and the zombies are safer that way.
  • Email Claire Colombini claire.colombini@wsu.edu or Emily Liu emily.y.liu@wsu.edu with any questions or concerns you have.
