Colloquium: Physics & Astronomy – Dr. Fred Gittes

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites all to a colloquium featuring Dr. Fred Gittes , Department of Physics & Astronomy and Washington State University. Dr. Gittes will present his talk, “Falling cats, curvature and gauge theory”, Tuesday, February 20 at 4:10 p.m. in Webster 17.

Curvature and connections, or gauge fields, have become central to physics. I will provide a bird’s-eye view of where these concepts can be used to think about some relatively accessible and fun physics problems, such as the ability of falling cats to turn over.
