Disability and Intersectionality Series: We were there, too: Black disabled voices in the disability revolution with Anita Cameron

Too often, in the telling of the history of the disability rights movement, the voices and experiences of Black disabled, in particular, have been whitewashed, or even erased. Disability rights activist, Anita Cameron will speak about her 34 years in the disability rights movement and the contributions of Black disabled to the struggle, including Black participation in iconic events, such as the 504 sit-in, the Capitol Crawl and the fight for Medicaid. “Many of the Black disabled folks who fought beside me in the trenches back in the day, are gone, said Cameron. I’ve made it my mission, indeed, it is my duty, to tell their stories and make sure they aren’t forgotten.”

Bio: This presentation is hosted by disability rights activist, Anita Cameron. Anita has been involved in social change activism and community organizing for over 36 years. She is the director Minority Outreach at Not Dead Yet, a national disability rights organization that fights against physician assisted suicide and euthanasia of people with disabilities.
