About the event

WSU School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science:
Lunch and Learn with Industry

Your Career is Not What You’re Expecting
by Arika Arnzen, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories

Presentation:
Arika will present on the unexpected, fun, and challenging transition she experienced as she left college and started her career. She will talk about a day-in-the-life, and the kinds of problems she solves and the technical work that she does. She hopes her experiences will be insightful and encouraging, and spur motivation for others who are looking forward to what comes next after graduation.

Bio:
Arika Arnzen worked as an intern at SEL for three years prior to graduating from WSU in May of 2019 with a BS in Software Engineering. She has been working full-time for a year and a half as an Associate Software Engineer with the Factory Application Development team, creating web applications for the Manufacturing department. Currently she is pursuing a Master’s in Human Computer Interaction through Iowa State University to learn more about the intersection of psychology and technology. In her time outside of work, she enjoys all things outdoors – hiking, biking, swimming, and running! She is also an avid reader and always has at least one book on her. A few fun facts are that she backpacked the West Highland Way in Scotland and her top two favorite novels are East of Eden by John Steinbeck and Hannah Coulter by Wendall Berry.

Series Purpose:
It has been said one should never let a crisis go to waste, because it can be an opportunity to try new things that may not have been possible before. And, with the temporary transition to online learning, we have a new means for industry to connect with students at WSU.

The purpose of this speaking series is for high-tech companies to share insight with EECS students and give time for Q&A.

Example topics will include career experiences, how to succeed in industry, what to expect with your first job, interviewing advice, along with technology discussions and trends.

The series is brought to you by the WSU EECS Executive Council. We are engineers, managers, and executives that help advise the WSU EECS program so what you learn at school matches the skills and values needed for a successful career.
