Faculty Artist Series: Composing for Improvisors

“Composing for Improvisors” will feature music by WSU Regents Professor, saxophonist and composer Greg Yasinitsky, scored for small jazz ensembles.

Yasinitsky will perform with the WSU faculty quartet Gator Tail along with Brian Ward, organ; Brad Ard, guitar; and David Jarvis, drums. They will perform Yasinitsky’s “Rubicon,” “McCall” and “Blues for Brecker.”

Yasinitsky will also appear with Crosscurrent, a quintet of faculty members from WSU and the University of Idaho including Ward, piano; Vern Sielert, trumpet; F. David Snider, bass; and Dan Bukvich, drums. They will perform Yasinitky’s “Snagglepuss,” “Suddenly You” and “Black Ice.”

Closing the concert will be the YAZZ Band, fun sized edition. They will perform orchestrations of Yasinitsky’s “Blues for a King,” “Synergetic” and  “G.P.” YAZZ Band soloists will include WSU music major Brandt Fisher, saxophone; Sielert, trumpet; Ward, piano; Snider, bass; and Jarvis, drums.

Proceeds from ticket sales in the series benefit the School of Music Scholarship Fund. Tickets, on sale one hour before performances in the lobby, cost $10 general admission, $5 senior citizens (55+)and non-WSU students and free for WSU students with ID
