Faculty Artist Series: Fabio Menchetti, piano
About the event
Fabio is looking forward to performing his first faculty recital at the School of Music at WSU on Friday, January 22, 2021! He will be performing two important works by two of his favorite composers, Beethoven’s sonata op. 10 no. 3 in D major and Chopin’s third sonata in B minor op. 58. Beethoven’s sonata op. 10 no. 3 belongs to the composer’s early style, but it features a wide range of traits: from the classical approach of the first movement is followed by a pre-Romantic second movement, whereas the third and fourth movement are full of humor and “musical jokes.” Chopin’s third sonata, also in four movements, is an intense work typical of the Romantic period. After a dense and lyrical first movement, a very short and light scherzo follows. The third movement is one of the most beautiful pages ever written by Chopin, and a virtuosic finale concludes this work in a magnificent way.
