About the event

PROGRAM

The vast endless nature of the sea has long inspired poets and composers, often using it to suggest human emotions.  In “Songs of Love and the Sea” the music performed by Julie Anne Wieck, soprano, Elena Panchenko, piano and Martin King, horn will take the listener on a journey through various reflections of this relationship.  Featured on the recital will be a bel canto set of Donizetti, Rossini, and Puccini, the famous Auf dem Strom for voice, piano and horn by Schubert, and French impressions by Faure, Debussy, and Poulenc.  A tempestuous sea is evident in Joaquin Turina’s Tres Poemas while a more delicate suggestion of the ocean can be heard in Gwyneth Walker’s setting of Emily Dickinson poetry in Emily! (from New England.) As part of the WSU School of Music Faculty Artist Series, this recital will be presented on September 29, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. in Bryan Hall Theatre, free of charge.
