About the event

See Franchesca Ramsey speak on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Bruce M Pitmen Center International Ballroom, University of Idaho.

The University of Idaho Women’s Center and Washington State University Women’s Center are proud to collaborate to bring Franchesca Ramsey to the Palouse as the signature event for Women’s History Month.

Hailing from New York City, Ramsey is a writer, video blogger, and actress. Her self-described “claim to fame” came in January 2012 when her video, titled “Sh*t White Girls Say to Black Girls,” went viral and sparked a field day on major news outlets. Since then, she has been interviewed and invited to participate as a guest correspondent, which she did so regularly on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

More recently, Ramsey has been hosting her MTV News series “Decoded,” which tackles issues of race and popular culture. In 2018, she published Well, That Escalated Quickly: Memoirs and Mistakes of an Accidental Activist, a collection of personal essays. She also manages and creates content for her two YouTube channels: the Chescaleigh Comedy Channel, which features parody performances, and the Chescalocs Channel, where she posts about beauty, haircare and style advice.

Ramsey will speak in the International Ballroom of the Bruce M. Pitman Center at 6:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Following her keynote, Ramsey will be signing copies of her book, which will be available for purchase on site from BookPeople of Moscow. The event is free and open to all.

This event is made possible with generous sponsorship from the following organizations:

University of Idaho: Women’s Center, Office of Equity & Diversity, Office of the Dean of Students, College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences, Department of Student Involvement, and the School of Journalism and Mass Media.
