About the event

PROGRAM

Dr. Tiantian Liang, from Tennessee State University, will present a solo recital with piano works by lesser-known and popular composers. The program opens with Fantasia Fugata by Amy Beach, followed by a selection of pieces from the charming set The Year, a true gem not only among Henselt’s works, but in the Romantic piano literature. The third work on the program is Eight Memories in Water Color by living Chinese composer Tan Dun, a collection that blends Impressionist influences with element from traditional Chinese music. The intense second sonata by Prokofiev will close the recital. This program, a journey beginning in the US, then going to Germany and China, and finally ending in Russia, will shed light on music by composers from different eras and backgrounds.
