About the event

The WSU School of Music will host guest artist and entrepreneur Ryan Zwahlen, March 6-8. Zwahlen is principal oboist with the Central Oregon Symphony and a founding member of the West Winds Chamber Ensemble. He has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and held positions with the Santa Cruz Symphony and Pacific Chamber Orchestra. He also serves as Director of the MidPeninsula Music Academy, and is on faculty at the Young Musicians and Artists summer arts camp. He maintains a private oboe and flute studio in Bend, Oregon.

Zwahlen will give masterclasses on Sunday, March 6 in Kimbrough Hall, from 1:30-2:30pm (flute) and 3-5pm (oboe), and will speak about his experiences performing, teaching, and directing at 11am on Tuesday, March 8, in Kimbrough B48.

Ryan Zwahlen will perform a diverse recital of contemporary music for oboe with WSU faculty members Fabio Menchetti, Sophia Tegart, and Keri McCarthy, on Monday, March 7 at 7:30pm in Kimbrough Concert Hall. That recital will feature works by Jennifer Stevenson, Viet Cuong, and Alyssa Morris, among others, and will conclude with the charming Madeline Dring Trio for flute, oboe, and piano.
