Performance

WSU Jazz Festival

About the event

Horace Alexander YoungVisiting saxophonist and WSU alumnus Horace Alexander Young will perform with the WSU Jazz Big Band during a free, public concert at noon Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Bryan Hall at Washington State University. The concert is part of the daylong WSU Jazz Festival for area high school groups.

Young is a “triple threat” artist who has toured the world with South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim and is equally gifted as a multi-instrumentalist on woodwinds, keyboards, percussion, vocals, and as a highly skilled composer and arranger. His varied experiences in these disciplines have led to appearances on over eighty recordings and several international tours and performances. The performance by the WSU Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Brian Ward, will feature both faculty members and students.

The festival will include adjudicated performances throughout the day by visiting school groups; clinics by Young and WSU jazz studies faculty members. Members of WSU’s faculty ensemble Jazz Northwest will perform at 4:20 p.m. in Kimbrough Hall.

The festival is presented by the WSU School of Music, the Jazz Society at WSU, and student music association Allegro. For more information see http://go.wsu.edu/jazzfestival or contact Brian Ward brian.ward@wsu.edu or Sandra Albers sandra_albers@wsu.edu
