About the event

Terese Marie Mailhot is a writer from Seabird Island Band, who teaches creative writing at Purdue University. Her work has appeared in Guernica, Pacific Standard, Granta, Mother Jones, Medium, the Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere. As part of the Visiting Writers Series, Mailhot will be visiting WSU-Pullman October 4th and 5th to present her work and lead an intensive one-day workshop on memoir writing for students of all majors.

Mailhot is the New York Times bestselling author of Heart Berries: A Memoir, which was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award for English-Language Nonfiction, and was selected by Emma Watson as the Our Shared Shelf Book Club Pick for March/April 2018, among many other awards. “We’re thrilled to have such an important voice in memoir writing visit our campus and work with our students,” said Zili Chang, the Visiting Writer Series Intern.

Her workshop will run in the Bundy Reading Room, Avery Hall on October 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mailhot will take a student-centered approach to guide students through memoir writing. To enroll in the workshop, contact Leisa McCormick at lmccormick@wsu.edu. Space is limited.
