About the event

PROGRAM

Celebrate the coming of spring with the cast of WSU Opera’s production of the comic opera The Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana. The action all takes place in one day as a small Czech village celebrates a spring festival, complete with a maypole, a beer garden, a circus, and plenty of polka dancing. Marie and Jenik are in love, but her parents have engaged the talents of Kecal, a marriage broker, to finalize a contract with Micha, a wealthy landowner, so Marie will marry his son, Vasek. Amid all the merriment, Jenik and Marie must find a way for their love to survive the machinations of their elders and bring a happy ending to their story. The production is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and the WSU Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Dr. Danh Pham. Performances will be in Bryan Hall Theatre on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door: $15 General Admission and $10 All Students/Senior Citizens (65+).
