About the event

Guest speakers Mia Gleason of Tule Publishing and Katie Reed of Andrea Hurst & Associates Literary Agency—both of whom are seeking undergraduate WSU student interns for Fall 2024–will share overviews of their respective roles in the publishing industry, then describe what an internship with their company might look like. Q&A to follow, and a sign-up sheet for interested students pursuing the Editing & Publishing Certificate and hoping to apply for internships will be provided.

GUEST SPEAKER BIOS:

Mia Gleason is the Marketing and Editorial Assistant for Tule Publishing, a small SoCal based publisher that specializes in ebook publications heavily rooted in romance novels and mysteries. Since joining Tule in April 2023, Mia has taken over the marketing and communications efforts to promote Tule frontlist and backlist titles, often communicating and coordinating directly with authors. With a heavy background in social media management, website content development, and strategic communications, Mia brings over 8 years of marketing experience to the table. You can often find her curled up with her Kindle, or walking through bookstacks, likely with a warm drink in hand.

Katie Reed began her career in publishing with Andrea Hurst and Associates while pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in English at Sacramento State and has worked in the publishing field for over a decade. Boo Walker (The Singing Trees), Suzanne Kelman (A View Across the Rooftops), and international bestselling author Dr. Bernie Siegel, are among the many clients and works the agency represents. She has over a decade of experience in publishing as an agent and developmental editor and has taught courses at conferences across the country. Katie loves discovering new talent, building lasting connections with her authors, and working diligently to represent books readers will love. Katie lives in Lewiston, Idaho with her husband, three children, a Bichon Frise, a Golden Retriever, and two obstinate cats. In the summer you can find her on the beach upriver in Hells Canyon, preferably with a good book.
